What is pom.xml?

pom.xml, the POM (Project Object Model) file, is the Maven project file that defines a fundamental unit of work in Maven. It is an XML file that contains information about the project and configuration details used by Maven to build the project. It contains default values for most projects.

Here is the pom.xml generated by the "mvn archetype:generate" using the "maven-archetype-quickstart" project template:

But this default pom.xml is outdated now. It uses 1.5 as the default JDK version for source code and target class code, which is too low for JDK 10.

You can modify pom.xml by adding JDK version configuraitons:
