Tools to Generate and Manage JAR Files
What tools can I use to generate and manage JAR files?
✍: FYIcenter.com
There are a number tools you can use to generate and manage JAR files:
1. JDK "jar" Tool - The "jar" tool from the JDK package is probably the best tool to generate and manage JAR files. It offers many features like creating a new JAR file, updating a JAR file, adding manifest file to a JAR file, adding index to a JAR file, etc.
For more details, see FAQ for JDK JAR (Java ARchive) Tool.
2. JDK "arsigner" Tool - The "arsigner" too from the JDK package is probably the best tool to sign a JAR file (generate signature information about a JAR file and store it back into the JAR file). It can also be used to verify a signed JAR file.
3. ZIP Tools - ZIP tools like WinZIP and WinRAR can also be used to create and manage JAR files. But they can not be used to manage META-INF files.
4. Java JAR API - JDK provides JAR API that allows you to write your own Java programs to create and manage JAR files. Java JAR API can be identified by the package name of java.util.jar.*.
